IPEA commenced the year with the knowledge that there would be an election. We prepared by implementing the lessons from our first election in 2019.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide the Committee with my annual Statement as CEO of the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) and to reflect on the work of the last year.

I am now beginning my fourth year as CEO of IPEA, and as I have over the past few years, I think it is important for IPEA to make an opening statement at the first Senate Estimates appearance of the year.

IPEA starts the new decade with a continuing focus on providing parliamentarians and their staff with the necessary services to undertake their critical role in Australia’s democracy.

Thank you for this opportunity. Having completed my first year as CEO, these are my reflections on the organisation’s critical role in building public trust, through transparency, in the integrity of Australia’s parliamentary work expenses.

IPEA processes Freedom of Information (FOI) requests under the applicable legislation, the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act).
