The Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) has today released the first quarterly expenditure reports for current and former parliamentarians which covers the period 1 January to 31 March 2017.
Acting CEO Leonie McGregor said that this is the first of the expenditure reports to be released through the IPEA to help improve transparency and accountability.
“Previously reports on parliamentarians’ expenditure have only been released every six months.”
“IPEA’s release of the first quarterly expenditure reports for both current and former parliamentarians is an important first step towards more regular reporting of parliamentarians’ expenditure, and we are working hard to upgrade our systems to further increase the frequency of future reports.”
From 1 July 2017, the IPEA was established as a Commonwealth statutory authority to audit and report on parliamentarians' work expenses. It has been set up to provide advice to parliamentarians and their staff on travel related expenses to support them in undertaking their duties, requiring that taxpayer funds be spent appropriately and in compliance with the relevant principles and regulations.
The release of the first quarterly expenditure reports are now available at: http://www.ipea.gov.au/parliamentarians-expenditure-reporting
