IPEA's commitment to Freedom of Information

Tuesday 29 May 2018

IPEA processes Freedom of Information (FOI) requests under the applicable legislation, the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). We act in accordance with the FOI Act and process requests with due consideration to the privacy rights of individuals, the need for procedural fairness, and any potential impacts on personal safety.

Further information on how IPEA handles FOI applications is available on the IPEA website.

The FOI Act provides for exemptions in some circumstances. IPEA applies these exemptions only where necessary and appropriate. Further information about the application of FOI exemptions is available in the FOI Guidelines section of the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) website.

FOI applicants are able to seek a review of a decision made by IPEA under the FOI Act via an internal agency review, or an external review by the Australian Information Commissioner. Information regarding this process is available at FOI Review Process

Individuals who are not FOI applicants may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner about an agency’s handling of FOI requests.

More information regarding this process is available at Freedom of Information Complaints.
