The information contained in the reports below is considered to be an accurate statement of payments made and receipts received within the period 1 January to 31 March 2017, in respect of work expenses for eligible persons being:
- former Prime Ministers
- other Life Gold Pass holders
- post retirement travellers
- surviving spouses or de facto partners of former Prime Ministers.
The report comprises:
- aggregate information on travel costs, and, where applicable, family travel costs and costs of office facilities and office administration for all eligible persons processed during the period
- summary information particular to each eligible person on costs incurred and any repayments made on work expenses for two separate reporting periods:
- expenditure paid between 1 January to 31 March 2017, relating to the period on or after 1 January 2017
- expenditure paid between 1 January to 31 March 2017, relating to the period prior to 1 January 2017.

Explanatory notes
1. Domestic scheduled fares
Payments made for travel by former parliamentarians via domestic scheduled services. This total also includes any refunds received.
2. Car costs
Payments made for the following:
- Private-Plated Vehicle (former Prime Ministers only): hire, insurance, maintenance costs and fuel costs of Commonwealth-leased private-plated vehicles
- COMCAR (former Prime Ministers and surviving spouses or de facto partners of former Prime Ministers only): the cost of COMCAR trips billed within the period.
3. Office facilities #
(former Prime Ministers and surviving spouses or de facto partners of former Prime Ministers only)
Payments made for the following:
- property operating expenses: including lease, power, cleaning
- office security
- repairs and maintenance: of both property and its fixtures
- telecommunications purchases: the purchase of, servicing, repairs and maintenance of telecommunications
- office equipment: the purchase of office equipment.
4. Office administrative costs
(former Prime Ministers only)
Payments made for the following:
- office consumables and services
- publications
- printing and communications.
5. Telecommunications
(former Prime Ministers and surviving spouses or de facto partners of former Prime Ministers only)
Payments made for telecommunication usage costs (fixed and mobile).
6. Family travel costs
(former Prime Ministers and Life Gold Pass holders only)
Payments made for domestic travel, undertaken by the former parliamentarian's spouse or de facto partner for the following:
- domestic scheduled fares
- COMCAR.
7. Travelling allowance
(former Prime Ministers only)
Payments made to former Prime Ministers for overnight stays in locations other than their home base, when travelling in their capacity as a former Prime Minister.
Expenditure against travel provisions may not necessarily relate to travel actually undertaken during the period. This is due to the fact that the travel accounts (payments and receipts) can be processed in a reporting period other than one in which the travel takes place. Other expenditure may have similar accounting and processing procedures.
Goods and services purchased on behalf of former parliamentarians are reported exclusive of recoverable Goods and Services Tax (GST). This is in accordance with the requirement that all agencies report all expenditure as exclusive of recoverable GST.
