About Us

The Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) was established following the Prime Minister’s announcement of changes to parliamentarians’ work expenses on 13 January 2017.

On 22 February 2017, the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority Act 2017 (IPEA Act) received the Royal Assent.  The operational provisions of the IPEA Act that formally establish IPEA are expected to commence on 1 July 2017.

In the meantime, an interim IPEA has been established as an Executive Agency under the Public Service Act 1999 in order to take over advice and administration of parliamentarians’ and Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 (MOP(S) Act) staff travel and reporting before the IPEA Act comes into effect.
